Munro House is a privately owned art
gallery in Leeds city center. During our visit, they were exhibiting work from
a competition called ‘Shot Up North’. The exhibition ranged from very
commercially influenced images to contemporary fine art photography
demonstrating a variety of responses and approaches. I found it interesting to
be experiencing images of such diversity in one exhibition, it allowed me to
consider how many different ways there are to respond to a brief regardless of
the genre (portraiture, fashion, landscape etc). On the other hand, I found
that having such a wide collection of responses all displayed and presented in
a mundane environment favored the more commercial images, ultimately
influencing the viewer’s perception of images.
